Four Air Max 1’s available now on WOOVIN

    Image: Sneaker News

The Nike Air Max 1, originally released in 1987, was the first Nike  sneaker to visibly display its Air cushioning technology. A risky move that had many critics within Nike before its release, once it finally reached the public, all doubt went away. Now one of the most popular and timeless silhouettes in history, the Nike Air Max 1 is a great sneaker to add to any collection. So, without further ado, we have compiled 4 of our favorite Air Max 1s available now on our WOOVIN site.

Nike Air Max 1 Corduroy Baltic Blue

A beautiful sneaker that is perfect for the summer, the Nike Air Max 1 Corduroy Baltic Blue takes the once-performance model in a very lifestyle-focused direction. Although the Nike Air Max 1 has its origins as a running shoe, it quickly became casual sneaker wearers’ footwear of choice, especially thanks to the bubble on the midsole adding an aesthetic element that separated the shoe from any other at the time. This pair reflects this change in its choice to forgo any performance-focused materials on the upper and, instead, cover the shoe in a bright blue corduroy. Whilst beige accents on the swoosh and tongue tab add a subtle contrast.

Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Big Bubble Sport Red

The most recent Air Max 1 to feature on this list, the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Big Bubble Sport Red released this year on Air Max Day. A yearly event celebrating anything and everything air max related, it takes place on March 26th, the date the Air Max 1 was first released in ’87. This pair in particular pays homage to the Air Max 1’s creation, taking inspiration from an early mockup of the Air Max 1 that got beaten out by the design we know today. This version differs in its larger “bubble” in the midsole which exposes the Air unit present in the heel of the sneaker. Otherwise, the sneaker comes in a clean white and grey colorway, with red hits on the swoosh and mudguard that wrap around the base of the upper.

Nike Air Max 1 Kasina Won-Ang Orange

Released last year, this collaboration between Korean sneaker boutique Kasina and Nike pays homage to Korean culture with its “Won-Ang” theme. “Won-Ang” are Mandarin “Wedding ducks” which used to be bought for a partner in South Korea before they got married. Citing the ducks’ lifelong mating pattern reminiscent of humans, even though real ducks aren’t bought for partners anymore, wooden ducks are often given for the same reason. Otherwise, the sneaker features several interesting materials, from a suede mudguard to a leather toe, and wooden deubre on the bottom of the laces. The fur on the midfoot connects the sneaker to its duck theme, alongside a duck motif on the outsole, heel tag and insole.

Nike Air Max 1 Patta Waves Noise Aqua

Last but not least, the Nike Air Max 1 Patta Waves Noise Aqua was one of the first of a run of Patta  x Nike Air Max 1s to hit shelves. Its unique wave design taking over the bottom of the upper gives the shoe an entirely new look, whilst the rest of the silhouette remains true to the original design. We have picked out the Noise Aqua colorway for its light upper and midsole, alongside a striking aqua blue wave pattern. What’s more, the pair comes with a free bracelet featuring a Nike swoosh and the Suriname flag, referencing the Patta founders’ Surinamese heritage.

Everything you need to know about the Jordan 1 Retro High Washed Heritage

    Image: Kicks On Fire

Three things in life are guaranteed: death, taxes, and Air Jordan 1’s being popular. Around once a month, a new Jordan 1 Retro High releases. And every time they do, it’s big news. The release of the Jordan 1 Retro High OG Washed Heritage is shaping up to be no different. Here’s everything you need to know about its release.

    The sneaker

The sneaker’s upper is dressed in a faded grey suede, with white leather panels underneath, mimicking the color blocking of the Jordan 1 Retro High Chicago. A lighter grey suede is situated on the collar, whilst black detailing is present on the lining and the outsole. The outsole comes in a faded sail color, alongside red detailing on the tongue tab and insole as the only hits of color.

    Our thoughts

Tapping into the worn aesthetic on this Jordan, the shoe mimics trends over the last few years whereby people have personally worn down their shoes, so they don’t look fresh out of the box. Jordan recognized their choice by releasing the Jordan 1 Retro High OG Lost and Found colorway last year. Instead of just using white, red, and black, they colored the midsole and tongue in a faint sail color, to mimic the yellowing that occurs naturally on Jordans over time. Although fitting a similar aesthetic, this Jordan goes about it more uniquely. As well as using a yellowed sole, the upper distressed suede also adds to the worn-in feel of the shoe.

Using suede as the primary material on a Jordan 1 is a big decision in itself as, famously, the shoe almost always has an-all leather construction. Occasionally a mid or low cut of the model features some nubuck, but on an Air Jordan 1 High this is rare. This pair comes only a couple of months after the Jordan 1 Retro High OG Washed Pink  which was a women’s exclusive but featured identical color blocking and washed suede detailing. And even before that, the first shoe to feature this kind of look was the Jordan 1 Retro High Turbo Green, which was released back in 2019.  However, whilst these pairs offered brighter silhouettes thanks to their primarily pink or blue designs, Jordan’s latest offering has more of a subtle look, making it both easier to work into an outfit and more suitable for everyday use. This pair will also be the first Jordan to feature a washed suede look in full sizing since the turbo green pair four years ago, giving fans of the original plenty of time before bringing back the washed concept.

  • J Balvin’s next project with Jordan has been unveiled

J Balvin’s next project with Jordan has been unveiled

    Image: Sole Collector

Colombian Reggaeton artist J Balvin has been a mainstay in his field for the best part of a decade now. But has become a household name worldwide over the last couple of years, thanks to his smash hits and his appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020. There, he unveiled his first collaboration with Air Jordan on feet. Three years later, we have seen for the first time what the artist’s third sneaker will look like.

    The sneaker

Reportedly inspired by the sunsets in Medellin, where J Balvin grew up, the sneaker comes mostly in a sail color upper. Matched with a gradient representing the sunset around the heel on the midsole and on the heel tab. The gradient starts with a dark purple, before fading into pink and then into a vivid yellow. Otherwise, on the sneaker, some light grey detailing is present on the elephant print and around the middle eyelets, and yellow detailing is present on the exposed ends of the leather panelling as well as on the eyelets. These details add up to create an aged look, juxtaposing the pops of color on the heel.

    Image: Sole Collector

    Some background context

This comes only a year after J Balvin’s last sneaker. Working his way through the Air Jordan models, he initially collaborated on a Jordan 1 Retro High in 2020 before taking on the Jordan 2 in 2022 and now the Jordan 3. Each sneaker has its own aesthetic, with the Jordan 1 Retro High J Balvin featuring a rainbow pattern on the upper alongside a jagged finish on the upper paneling. The Jordan 2 Retro J Balvin, however, had a less bright – but just as bold – design, covered almost entirely in a light blue. Taking inspiration from clouds, the upper featured extra padding as well as glow-in-the-dark details on the tongue and outsole. Now, the artist seems to return to a more colorful design but integrated into the sneaker more subtly for a more casual sneaker.
Alongside J Balvin and his work with Jordan Brand, fellow Latin artist and frequent collaborator Bad Bunny has also seen considerable success in sneakers. Working with Adidas, Bad Bunny helped bring back the Adidas Forum in 2021 and has since worked on his own Adidas Response Cl Bad Bunny, as well as the Adidas Campus Bad Bunny. All of these have been a bright spot in Adidas’ line-up, at a time when their Yeezy line has come to an abrupt end and Beyonce’s Ivy Park line has ended by mutual agreement. Furthermore, Rosalia has played an increasing role in sneaker marketing campaigns for Nike over the last few years. If anyone was questioning the ability of Latin artists to market sneakers worldwide, they aren’t anymore.

  • Picking out a sneaker to match 4 styles of pants

Picking out a sneaker to match 4 styles of pants

    Image: END.

Situated next to each other in an outfit, it’s imperative for a great fit that your sneakers match your chosen pants. But it’s not always straightforward knowing which combinations work best. That’s why this week we have picked out 4 popular styles of pants and matched them up with 4 sneakers available on our WOOVIN site to help you out with your outfits.

    Sweatpants

Sweatpants have always been a great option for those among us who are concerned primarily with comfiness but, especially after the rising popularity of athleisure, sweatpants have become a legitimately fashionable choice. Their baggy fit makes them perfect to pair with a bulky silhouette that also adds to the sporty look, hence why we’ve chosen the New Balance 550. A once popular basketball silhouette, the shoes recently made their return, particularly thanks to collaborations with New York boutique Aime Leon Dore. Their subtle colorways mixed with a loud silhouette come together to find the perfect balance for a laid-back yet fashionable fit.

    Jeans

When it comes to jeans there are two things to bear in mind. Firstly, whether they have a baggy or skinny fit, and secondly if their traditional denim color may clash with your sneaker’s colorway. As a general rule, neutral colors like white, black, grey, and brown all work great alongside jeans. And no matter the fit, a pair of Yeezy 700s, such as the Yeezy Boost 700 Analog , would be more than suitable. Their “dad-shoe” style is easy to work with, and the shoe’s bulky – but mesh – upper stops the shoe from being quite as clunky as other leather dad shoes, like the Nike Air Monarch.

    Cargoes

A popular pant at the moment, the cargoes are popular for their multiple pocket utility, as well as their traditional olive-green hue. Their baggy fit and detailed nature make them great to pair with a simple silhouette, such as the Nike Dunk Low Reverse Brazil. Its basic color blocking, as well as its wide shape, will add to the baggy look and stop the sneaker from getting swallowed up underneath the pants. Especially in the Alternate Brazil colorway, as its striking green and yellow detailing will keep the sneakers as the center of attention.

    Image: Sneaker News

    Shorts

Perfect for the summer, and those warmer days, shorts can come in all kinds of varieties, with basketball shorts having a lower, baggier cut, whilst running shorts have a higher cut and tighter fit. What they all have in common though is that they rarely go below the knee. Whilst this ensures the entirety of your shoe is always on show, more hardy footwear like boots is more prone to looking out of place on this style of pant. Rather, we recommend a pair of running sneakers or at least running-inspired sneakers. Take the New Balance 1906R Aime Leon Dore Jade, for example, with its low cut, sleek mesh upper, but with stylish accents across the upper to make it suitable for lifestyle use.
